Why did my Samsung phone do a factory reset?
Samsung users are reporting that certain models from their Canadian line-up trigger a factory reset whenever a SIM card or eSIM is installed for the first time.
Samsung says the factory reset is required in order to reorganize the software environment to map out carrier requirements, and the reset will only occur the first time the device interacts with either a SIM card or eSIM. Future SIM card swaps or eSIM installations should not trigger a factory reset.
What this means for aloSIM customers:
* If you buy a brand-new affected Samsung model (listed above) and immediately go to install your new eSIM, the factory reset won't affect you (as there will be no data to lose)
* If you have an existing Samsung model (listed above) that has previously never had a SIM card or eSIM installed in it, please back up data your data before installing your new eSIM
If you're having problems with your Samsung device, we encourage you to reach out to their support team. For any questions about your eSIM device, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org so we can help.
