I'm about to travel internationally. How do I avoid roaming charges?
During international travel, some people prefer to keep their regular phone number active so they can call/text normally (or in case of emergencies), while other people decide to switch off their regular phone number to avoid carrier fees for calls and texts.
It's important to decide this before travelling, so we can show you the best way to prepare your device to avoid roaming charges when you arrive at your destination.
If you'll be using aloSIM for international travel, this is what we recommend:
-
Install your eSIM when you have a strong internet connection (You can do this at home, prior to travel)
- If you decide to keep your primary SIM on (so you phone number will work), confirm your cell phone carrier isn't going to place you on a travel plan (daily flat fee) while you're using your phone internationally

-
Begin your data package activation right before international travel, to avoid roaming charges upon arrival.
For some, this will mean turning off Roaming on their primary SIM so they can still use their phone number. For others, this will mean toggling off their primary SIM entirely to avoid all charges.
- Complete your package activation when you arrive at your destination and begin using your prepaid eSIM data
Please let us know if you have any other questions about avoiding roaming charges or using an eSIM for data during international travel.
