How do I know if my phone is carrier-locked?
eSIMs can only be installed on phones that are not locked to a particular carrier. Here's how to check if your phone is carrier-locked ...
iOS devices (iPhones and iPads):
- Open "Settings"
- Select "General"
- Select "About"
- Scroll down to see "Carrier Lock" or "Network Provider Lock"
- If it says the name of a carrier, that means your phone is locked to carrier and it won't be able to accept a new carrier until this is changed. (You're probably seeing this error message.) Please contact your carrier to have the phone unlocked.
- If it says "No SIM restrictions," that's good news! It means your phone is able to connect to more than one network.
Android devices (Samsung, Google, etc.):
- Open "Settings"
- Select "Network & Internet" or "Connections"
- Choose "Cellular Network" or "Mobile Network"
- Select "Advanced"
- Select "Choose Network" or "Automatically Select Network" to see available carriers
- If you see only one carrier displayed, it likely means your phone is locked to that particular carrier and won't be able to accept a new carrier until this is changed. Please contact your carrier to have the phone unlocked.
NOTE: Some carriers, including Verizon, may not unlock a new phone within the first six months. - If you see more than one carrier listed, that's good news! It means your phone is able to connect to more than one network.
- If you see only one carrier displayed, it likely means your phone is locked to that particular carrier and won't be able to accept a new carrier until this is changed. Please contact your carrier to have the phone unlocked.
