How do I activate my eSIM data package on my Google Pixel?
Once you've successfully installed your Google Pixel eSIM (digital SIM card), you need to activate your eSIM data package before you can start using your data.
Remember, you must be located in your data package's country/region in order to connect to a network. (Don't try to activate a vacation data package if you're still at home, because you won't be able to reach those networks yet.)
You can complete these eSIM activation steps either (A) right before travel, so you avoid roaming charges from the second you arrive in a new country, or (B) when you have already arrived in the correct country/region for your eSIM data package to work.
- On your Google Pixel, go to "Settings" then "Network & internet." (Some Google Pixel devices might also need you to select "Mobile networks.")
- Select your new eSIM (aloSIM) and toggle it on
- Make sure "Mobile data" is toggled on
- Make sure "Roaming" is also toggled on
- If you have a regular/primary SIM in your Google Pixel, now it's time to decide what you want to do with it while you use aloSIM.
Go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Mobile networks" and select your primary SIM (if you have one).
OPTION 1: If you want to keep your regular phone number active for calling/texting, you need to leave your primary SIM toggled on, but "Mobile data" should be togged off (since you'll be using aloSIM for all data) and "Roaming" should be toggled off (to avoid carrier roaming charges). With this option, your mobile carrier may charge you for calls and texts that occur while you're in another country.
OPTION 2: If you want to disable your regular phone number while you travel internationally, you can toggle your primary SIM off completely. This will mean you won't be able to call/text on your regular phone number until you turn it back on, but you will avoid all international roaming fees for data, calls, and texts. - Check your network selection. Go to "Settings," then "Network & internet" (and possibly "Mobile networks," depending on your device) so you can select your eSIM. Scroll down and make sure "Automatically select network" is toggled on.
- Check that your APN is "alosim." Scroll down to tap "Access Point Names," and see if your selected APN is called "alosim." If it's not, we will walk you through how to edit your APN setting here.
Now your Google Pixel knows to use your eSIM for all data, so your new data should begin flowing within a couple of minutes once you're located in the correct country/region for this eSIM.
You should be able to go into your aloSIM app and see your eSIM now shows "ACTIVE" because you have an active data package.
If you encounter an issue activating your Google Pixel eSIM data package, please reach out to our team via live chat or email (support@alosim.com) so we can help, and DO NOT DELETE your eSIM since eSIMs can only be installed once, on a single device.
