How to turn "Data Roaming" off
If you let your phone's main SIM card "roam" while you're traveling, your carrier can add steep roaming charges to your next bill.
So if you're going to be traveling outside of your regular coverage area, here's how to make sure your phone can't try to connect to its usual network (and bill you in the process) ...
How to turn "Data Roaming" off on an iPhone or iPad:
1. Open "Settings"
2. Go to "Cellular"
3. Under Cellular Plans, select your Primary plan (phone number)
4. Toggle "Data Roaming" OFF
Now your iPhone or iPad will only have a data connection if you're within your regular coverage area, and you won't have to worry about roaming charges.
How to turn "Data Roaming" off on a Google Pixel:
1. Open "Settings"
2. Select "Network & Internet"
3. Choose "Mobile Networks"
4. Select your Primary SIM and make sure "Mobile data" and "Roaming" are both toggled OFF
How to avoid roaming charges on a Samsung device:
When you're using a Samsung, you only have one set of roaming settings, and those roaming settings are applied to the active SIM.
That means that if your Samsung is already using your eSIM as its Preferred/Primary SIM, you will need Data Roaming toggled on in order for your eSIM will work.
